Further Information

Fire polished beads are glass beads that have many facets (flat sides) on their surface.

They are made by heating and polishing pressed round glass beads in a kiln (a type of oven) at very high temperature. This process makes the glass soften and smooths the edges of the beads, creating the highly polished facets that reflect light.

Fire polished beads are one of the most popular and versatile types of beads for jewellery making and other crafts. They come in a variety of sizes, shapes, colours and finishes. One popular finish is AB (aurora borealis), which gives them a rainbow effect on the surface.

Fire polished beads are more economical than cut crystal beads, but still have a similar look and quality due to the facets giving an extra sparkle to the bead. They are also more durable than other glass beads, as they can withstand high temperatures and resist chipping.

You can use fire polished beads in your projects in many ways. They can be strung with other beads or spacers to create necklaces, bracelets, earrings or anklets. You can also weave with them using different stitches and techniques such as peyote, herringbone, right angle weave, brick stitch or netting to create beadwork like rings, pendants, brooches or beaded beads.

At ThreadABead we love to use Fire polished beads within our designs to add extra little sparkles and detail to our beadwork.
